Bulgarian Beach Resorts

Bourgas

Bourgas is the country’s fourth largest city and it’s located on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, in the southern half of country. It’s not the best beach in the world, but its close enough to Sozopol and Sunny Beach, which are both 30km away by bus in each direction, so that doesn’t matter.

Most people who visit the city use it as a gateway to get to the other beach resorts in the area, but others who don’t come for its shopping, nightlife and its fantastic internationally known hotels. The majority of the clubs and pubs are located along ulitsa Bogoridi, and the huge ulitsa Aleksandrovska. For more information on Bourgas go to http://wikitravel.org/en/Burgas

Golden Sands

Golden Sands is located on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, approximately 15km north of Varna. This is arguably, Bulgaria’s most popular beach, as its 4km sandy beach is packed with tourists every day during the summer season. At night all these bars, clubs and restaurants come alive and are packed out till the early hours of the morning.

The majority of the tourists coming here are Europeans and Russians on package holidays. This is increasing every year as more and more hotels are built up along the water and the tourists are coming because it’s one of the cheapest and most beautiful resorts in Europe.

Some of the activities you can do here are, diving, water-skiing, jet skiing and beach volleyball. If you are looking for a water activity, but away from the beach go to Aquapolis Water Park, which has waterslides and games to keep the kids happy. Sozopol

This is arguably one of the Black Sea’s best kept secrets and its located only 30 minutes south of Burgas.  It’s arguably one of the most beautiful beach resorts in Europe as well as the cheapest.

There are loads of great restaurants around the water, which serve excellent seafood. The nightlife is mainly located in the new area of the city, which caters to mainly a younger crowd. Arguably the best club in Sozopol is Mojito, which has some good DJs, but with its very high drink prices you might not want to stay to long.

The best way to get to Sozopol is by catching a bus from the main bus station in Burgas, which is located next to the train station. The bus leaves every 15 minutes from platform two and the journey takes around 30 minutes and will cost you 5 leva. If there is only one resort you plan to go to when you come to Bulgaria then this has to be the one. For more information on Sozopol go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sozopol

Sunny Beach

Sunny Beach is in the southern part of Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast and its 30km north of Bourgas. It’s one of Bulgaria’s most popular resorts and it attracts tourists from all over Europe on package holidays, for its beautiful beaches and great nightlife. There are many pubs and clubs to choice from along the beach that will keep you occupied till the early hours of the morning.

If you are looking for a non beach activity then maybe go to the UNESCO-protected ancient town of Nesebar just a few kilometers away from Sunny Beach. For more information on Sunny Beach go to  www.sunnybeachtouristinformation.com
